Cellist

Clea Friend has played as a soloist with the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra and freelances with all the major orchestras in Scotland.

 

She also plays in various chamber groups, including her own group, Artisan.

 

Clea studied with respected and established teachers including Andrea Hess, Lionel Handy and William Conway. 

 

During her undergraduate studies for a music degree at Edinburgh University she was principal cellist of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. She then won a scholarship to study with Steve Doane at the Eastman School of Music in New York State.

 

After her postgraduate studies in the United States she spent some time living and working across Europe before settling in Edinburgh. She enjoys a varied role in the Scottish capital’s cultural life, performing regularly and teaching privately at the City of Edinburgh Music School.
